The Beta stage is when the game is handed over to bug/glitch finders who play the game in order to make it as problem free as possible, this period can begin up to a year before the game is released, but usually not that early.

The wooden beam things in the water aren't here, and instead there are strange twiggy things, which as LetMeHaveYurKid points out, look like they might be hands sticking out of the ground...
There's a heart piece on top of the rock pinnacle near the waterfall, you can't really see it in this scan though.
